Author Robert Macomber will begin a series of discussions on Florida's role in the most momentous event in American history. The Southernmost Confederates describes the first two years (1861-1863) of the war in Florida. Join award-winning author Robert N. Macomber for a discussion of Florida's role at the start, and in first two years, of the Civil War. Learn about the economy and political outlook of the state, initial confrontations between the U.S. Army and the Confederates, Florida's blockade-runners, the relationship of the Caribbean to Florida, and Florida's reinforcement of the Confederate armies in Tennessee and Virginia. The event is hosted by the Friends of the Marion Baysinger Memorial County Library.
