Young Adult Horror Fantasy Author J. Gabriel Gates

Nationally acclaimed author J. Gabriel Gates will be our featured Young Adult author for the 2012 Festival of Reading. Mr. Gates is being hailed as the future of literary horror. His first novel, Dark Territory: The Tracks, is the winner of the 2011 Flamingnet Top Choice Award! His newly released novel The Sleepwalkers is being considered as a featured read for a goodreads.com.

Mr. Gates is a native of Marshall, Michigan. The son of an educator, his passion for the written word began at a young age. During college, another passion – for performing – led him to get his B.A. degree in theater from Florida State University. During his years in Los Angeles, he appeared in a dozen national TV commercials and penned several screenplays while laying the groundwork for his career as a novelist.

He will be appearing on Wednesday, March 28 at 4:30 p.m. in the City of Tavares Public Library with his upcoming novel Blood Zero Sky. This latest novel promises to be the most exciting, scary, thought-provoking, dystopian teen novel you've ever read, that's what the title means. On Thursday, March 29 at 4 p.m. he will be in the Cooper Memorial Library with The Sleepwalkers. He will also appear at the Author Reception on Friday, 6:30 p.m. in the Lady Lake Public Library.

As part of the Festival of Reading mission to encourage the love of reading, Mr. Gates is doing several presentations on the writing process and creating the novel in Mount Dora High School, Lake Minneola High and Tavares Middle School. All programs are free and open to the public.

The complete schedule for the Festival of Reading including writing workshops and author events are posted on www.mylakelibrary.org All programs are presented free to the public thanks to our sponsors Lake County Office of Economic Development and Tourism; SECO, HarperCollins Publishers; Raintree Books and the Florida Humanities Council.
