Celebrate National Library Week!

National Library Week will be observed April 13-19, 2014 with the theme, "Lives change @ your library®. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.


Tavares Public Library is hosting the following free programs:

Monday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m. in the Tavares Civic Center, 100 E. Caroline St., Tavares. The Lake County Ladies Chorus will present their musical program, When Radio Was...

Be Royalty, a special toddler storytime, will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 11 a.m. in the Tavares Library as part of National Library Week. There will be a crown craft, prince and princess stories, and a royal parade. Make sure to wear your finest dress-up clothes!

As part of National Library Week, local teens will be given a chance to shine as they perform at the Tavares Library Teen Talent Show, Wednesday, April 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the TRA Room behind the library, 100 E. Caroline, Tavares, FL 32778.

The Bay Street Players Young Peoples' Theatre will perform Spring Cabaret as part of National Library Week. This free program is in honor of the Tavares Library Board, Tavares Friends of the Library, Inc. and our volunteers and tutors. City employees and the general public are invited to attend on Thursday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Tavares Civic Center, 100 E. Caroline, Tavares, FL 32778.

The East Lake County Library will be hosting the following free programs:

Monday April 14 is Poetry Night at 6:30 p.m. Open mic for any poets to share their work. Come and participate!

Wednesday April 16 is Trivia Game Day at 4 p.m. Kids come and play trivia games for prizes.

Friday April 18th, the Book Club will meet at 1 p.m. Want to talk about what you’ve read? Join the club for an open book discussion group.

Saturday April 19th, the East Lake Chamber of Commerce is having their Annual East Lake Egg Hunt from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by the Movie Picnic @ the East Lake County Library beginning at 1:00 p.m. Bring your own snacks and we will pop the popcorn.

For National Library Week at the East Lake County Library every physical checkout at the Library will enter you to win a $50 card to Books-A-Million.

Come into the Marianne Beck Memorial Library and celebrate National Library Week! Choose one of your favorite books to illustrate through food. You can be creative choosing your book and making a recipe inspired by that book. The selections may be cooked any way you would like.....baked, fried, etc. A large portion or a small portion. Bring them all in to the library on April 17th for judging at 4 p.m. This contest is open to all ages. Prizes for the winners will be supplied by the Friends of the Library.

Everyone is also invited to celebrate by purchasing one of the Howey book bags and filling it with books! All for a $5.00 donation. The Friends of the Library have collected and compiled some great books through donations. Choose from a large selection of young adult, mystery, romance, hardcover and paperback books! All money goes to support the library and library programs.
