Thursday, March 18th at 4:00 p.m. The Paisley County Library will host Florida Adventures: History and Myth for the Festival of Reading. This event will be a partnership with the Astor and Umatilla libraries and will feature popular authors John Henry Fleming, Steve Rajtar and Jim Robison.
They're known as Storm Devils and Peat Fairies, Skunk Apes and Were-Panthers, and they're the wildly imaginative bestiary that populates John Henry Fleming's newest best seller, Fearsome Creatures of Florida. It is required reading for anyone who lives in Florida, has ever lived there, has relatives who live in Florida, ever went to Florida on vacation, has ever flown over Florida on route to somewhere else, has ever dreamed about Florida ….
Steve Rajtar has written 19 books, each dealing with history, particularly that of Florida. Among these works are Historic Photos of Florida Tourist Attractions and Historic Photos of Gainesville. A love of the outdoors and a fascination with local history inspired one of his hobbies: leading historical tours in communities of Florida.
Jim Robison's book Flashbacks, the Story of Central Florida's Past, covers the stories of Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties from the first Floridians through the opening of Walt Disney World. Jim has also published city photo histories on Longwood, Altamonte Springs and St. Cloud. The latest book, Kissimmee, Gateway to the Kissimmee River Valley, is a collaboration with creative nonfiction writer and filmmaker Bill Belleville
