Astor County Library

It Pays to Read
Pam Goodson

The winners of our Children’s Valentine Bag give-a-ways were Briana Murphy and Dillon Thigpin. The lucky winners of the Adult’s Valentine Bags were Lil Pacinda and David Groh. All they had to do to enter the drawing was to check out a book or magazine. See…it really does pay to read!

The winner of our St. Patrick's Day goodie bag was Miranda Tierney. She recently came home from the hospital with twin boys! Her mother was taking books to her while she was in the hospital preparing to have her babies. She is our first "remote" winner. Also, the winner of our Easter Basket, see photo, was Samantha Ivie.

The next give-a-way goodies are for Cinco de Mayo and the drawing will obviously be on May 5th. One of the prizes is a $10 gift card to Subway. Just come by the Astor Library and check out a book or magazine and who knows, you could be a winner! Our give-a-ways are sometimes purchased by our Friends of the Library, but usually we use really awesome donated items. Thank you for participating or for donating! The give-a-way goodies help to make reading fun for kids, but, of course, we want to include the adults sometimes too.

Astor Library is now having their 6th annual “Art in the Park” Spring Break Celebration. It is April 5th through the 8th from 11am to 2pm. The children are asked to bring a lunch with them for a daily picnic in the park. Scheduled on Monday is: Decoupage on Wood, Tuesday: Drawing & Acrylic Painting, Wednesday: Jewelry Art, and Thursday: Poster Art and Collage. Thursday there will be an Art Show and prizes. Sign-up today!

Our Friends of the Library are currently involved in re-landscaping the front of our building. If you have a green thumb, or just like to get dirty please call 352-759-9913 and volunteer your services. I’m sure our Friends will find something constructive for you to do.
