City of Tavares Library Looks to the Stars

Marli Lopez

Get a refreshing and bigger perspective by looking up to the stars with retired astrophysicist Kevin Manning during his presentation Astronomy For Everyone: Size & Scale of the Universe on October 20, 2011 at 6:30 pm in the Tavares Civic Center 100 E. Caroline Street.

Mr. Manning worked as a consultant with NASA on the Chandra X-Ray Observatory launched on the space shuttle with the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and other ground-based observatories. He is a former Wright Fellow and Einstein Fellow, and worked with Brookhaven National Laboratory. He has presented workshops in libraries, observatories, and science centers.

Participants will learn about the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders using hands-on activities and assorted visuals. Following the presentation, you will be treated to an amazing view of the rings of Saturn and other jewels of the night sky through a powerful telescope, weather permitting.
