From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Vivian Shipley will hold a special writing workshop with ¡Viva Libros! Poetry Contest winners. This contest is being held as part of the 2013 Lake County BookFest. Entries are being accepted now until February 8th. Special guest judge will be Pulitzer Prize nominee Vivian Shipley. The Poetry Contest is for ages 18 and up and there is a limit of 3 entries per person. 18 winners will be selected. These poets will be invited to attend a special private workshop with Ms. Shipley The winners will be invited to read to the public in the 1 p.m. event hosted by Vivian Shipley, Darlin’ Neal and Ryan Van Cleave. The winning poems will also be published on the Lake County Library System website Writers’ Page. www.mylakelibrary.org
1 p.m. Open Mic Readings hosted by Vivian Shipley, Darlin’ Neal, Ryan Van Cleave. Join us as we listen to our upcoming poetry stars. The public is encouraged to attend.
2 p.m. Writing Poetry with Dr. Darlin Neal. Writing poetry is a wonderful outlet for expressing ideas conveying information and feelings. Dr. Neal will discuss the elements to include, imagination and imagery rhythm, rhyme, tone. Dr. Neal holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from University of Southern Mississippi, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing/Fiction from University of Arizona and an M.A. in English/Creative Writing from New Mexico State University.
3 p.m. Poetry in Contemporary American Life with Ryan Van Cleave. Ryan is author of five poetry collections, including a co-authored book with Cuban-American writer Virgil Suárez. Also with Suárez, he co-edited four poetry anthologies. He teaches creative writing and literature at Clemson University; he also serves as Poetry Editor for The South Carolina Review. he is the Gold Medal Winner in the 2011 Florida Book Awards.
