Continuing our tradition of offering first class writing workshops, featured authors Vivian Shipley, Mary Anna Evans, Wendy Corsi Staub and Alison Gaylin will appear on Saturday, March 16th in the W.T. Bland Public Library

10 a.m. Vivian Shipley How to Publish and Win Contests
Editor of the award-winning Connecticut Review, Ms. Shipley will discuss the types of content to consider and pitfalls to avoid; the submission process, what to expect and how to proceed; and an overview of the publishing process.

11:30 a.m. Mary Anna Evans Your Novel: Day by Day
An all-in-one guide to planning, writing, editing, and publishing a first novel. Practical advice on crafting a plot, fleshing out believable characters, organizing a novel’s timeline, crafting believable motivations for your characters, editing objectively, evaluating traditional and independent publishing options, and marketing to agents, publishers, and readers.

1 p.m. Wendy Corsi Staub Crossing Genres
After stints as a book editor for a Manhattan publishing house and an account coordinator for a major advertising agency, she sold her first novel, the supernatural young adult thriller Summer Lightning. Early in her writing career, she published in various genres including suspense, horror, historical and contemporary romance, television and movie tie-in, and biography.

2 p.m. Alison Gaylin Mystery Writing
Ms. Gaylin will take you through the processes of creating your mystery, becoming inspired and motivated. She will discuss the important elements of a good mystery--the setting, the characters, the plot, etc.--and help you to become familiar with all the tools the mystery writer uses to create multi-layered, addictive mystery fiction.
