Books & Cooks 2013: Celebrating Florida’s Culinary Artisans – Tuesday, Oct 15 6 - 9 p.m. at the Mount Dora Community Building. From 6-7 p.m. enjoy a Taste of Florida in the courtyard; 7-9 pm a lively discussion of food & drink with our stars in the auditorium. Tickets are $10. Presented by the Friends of the Library.

Books & Cooks 2013 Bi-annual Cook Book Sale – Saturday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the W. T. Bland Public Library. Come early for the best selection. Reasonable prices.

AARP 55 Alive – 1st Monday and Wednesday of the month 9 a.m. to Noon; $14.00 fee-October 7 & 9; November 4 & 6; December 11 & 18.

SHINE - have questions about Medicare; need help with Medicare enrollment; trying to choose a supplemental plan; trained volunteers will help you. SHINE volunteers will be at the library: Thursdays October 3,10,17 & 24; Thursdays November 7, 14, & 21 and Thursday, December 5.  Understanding Medicare -Thursday October 24 at 10:30am Presented by SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders)

Chess Club – meets 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 10am to Noon – all ages welcome.

Knit ‘Knight’ – 2nd & 4th Tuesdays at 6:30pm – all ages and abilities are welcome; those who crochet are welcome also – meets in the Children’s Program Room.

Writers Café - the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm- includes all types of literature – short stories, novels, poetry, etc. Read your work and get feedback from fellow authors Come to listen or come to read and meet local writers and lovers of all things literary: Tuesday, October 29 and Tuesday, November 26. There will be no December meeting due to the holidays.

Halloween FunFest - Saturday, October 26 – 12:00 – 2 p.m. Games, crafts, balloon art, mad science, treats, photo ops & more! Bring your camera! Ages 12 & under.

Native American Campfire program Wednesday, November 6 – 6 p.m. - Jim Sawgrass will present an exciting historical and cultural Native American program with demonstrations, drumming and dancing. Bring a chair or blanket. All ages welcome!

Remembering Kristallnacht:An Eyewitness Account – Wednesday, November 6 at 3 p.m. – local resident John Neumaier was 17 at the time of Kristallnacht – the beginning of the Holocaust on November 9, 1938.

Christmas Tree Lighting program Wednesday, December 4 – 4:30 p.m. Santa will light the tree, entertainment and refreshments. We will be also offering a Tree Ornament Make & Take.
