Today...Authors Going Rogue

The Lake County Library System’s 11th annual Lake BookFest, Delicious Reads, will include a free workshop on self-publishing on Wednesday, March 12 from 2 – 4 p.m. in the W. T. Bland Public Library. Mystery Writers of America, Florida Chapter authors Julie Compton, Vicki Landis and Ann Meier will discuss why some authors have left traditional publishing for the wild world of DIY (do it yourself). Today, authors who want to get published have many options. This workshop will focus on the two most prevalent—traditional publishing and self - publishing, as well as the respective pros and cons. Will you get rich? How much can you realistically expect to make? Is it worth the effort? Can you really create a career publishing on your own?

Julie Compton is the internationally published author of Tell No Lies, a legal thriller set in her original hometown of St. Louis; Rescuing Olivia, a romantic, contemporary thriller set in Florida; and Keep No Secrets, the sequel to Tell No Lies. Her novels combine the suspense of thrillers with the drama of human relationships. An attorney by profession, she now writes full-time from her home near Orlando, Florida.

Ann Meier lives in Orlando and writes Mysteries with a Theme Park Smile. Her humorous cozy series features an Orlando attraction manager. The books’ parks are fictional, but Meier was a manager on the Universal Orlando Resort opening team. She also worked at Walt Disney World. She’s received five Royal Palm Literary Awards from The Florida Writers Association for her manuscripts.
