East Lake Library’s big event of the year is over. The Bluegrass Festival was another great success. We estimated having over 1000 people attend as we did last year. We had two new groups this year that really got the crowds excited. The groups were the October Mountain Washtub Band and Blue Mountain Grass. The October Mountain group actually used a washtub as an instrument. Blue Mountain Grass was wholly comprised of teenagers. Blue Mountain Grass was the hit of the show. We hope to have them back next year. All the acts were great and everyone enjoyed the music.
Throughout the daylong event The East Lake Friends of the Library conducted their Spring Fling, which included a book/bake sale, community flea market and a raffle. It was an extremely successful fund raiser, which nearly equaled last year’s event.
Due to the windy conditions the face painter from Happy Faces had to move inside. They were extremely popular with the kids. They were busy the entire time they were here with a constant line being formed.
For the first time we had a vendor who was selling BBQ. The BBQ was cooked up by the New Hope Mission Church located on 436 North. They offered chicken and ribs. It was popular with the crowd and it only seemed natural to have BBQ at a Bluegrass event. They were pleased by the business they did and were grateful for the additional exposure in the community. They have agreed to do their BBQ at any other of our subsequent events. For those who wanted an alternative the local VFW was serving up grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. Once again the food seemed to be a big hit with everyone.
We hope everyone comes back next year to enjoy tasty food and great music. If you haven’t come before we invite you to attend. There is plenty to do and to enjoy. Keep a lookout for the upcoming date for next spring. Also, keep an eye open for future events at the East Lake Library.
Thanks to all who made this event an outstanding success!
