I love learning new things and recently returned from a 3-day conference in Orlando with a head full of great ideas. The annual FAME Conference (Florida Association for Media in Education) is mostly attended by School Media Specialists, but it is for any librarian who works with young people. Jessica Luby, Youth Services Supervisor at Leesburg Public Library, and I learned from a variety of speakers for 3 days. We even presented a session with Julie Sligh and Leslie Lee, two Lake County School Media Specialists on ways public libraries and school libraries can work together and share resources. We're already thinking about what we'd like to present at the 2010 FAME Conference.
One of the highlights of this conference was meeting Jay Asher, author of Thirteen Reasons Why, which won this year's Florida Teens Read Award. He explained what he went through while writing this award-winning book which made reading it a very special experience. I'm not likely to ever forget this haunting novel and if you haven't read it yet, I strongly suggest you go to our online catalog and put the book on hold right away.
