The East Lake Library has just finished its biggest one-time program of the year, that being the Annual Bluegrass Festival. We had our biggest attendance of over 1400 people. The East Lake Friends group had a very successful sale. The proceeds will go to fund library purchases and programming. The weather was great, the music outstanding and overall festive mood. Thanks to those who attended and to those who didn't please come out next year.
Our next big event will be the Summer Reading Program. This year's theme is "Make A Splash". All the programming will involve water. The start date will be Wednesday June 9 at 1030 AM with the return of the popular ventriloquist and magician "Jungle Jimmy", the first of our "Special Guest Stars". The other "Special Guests Stars" will be John Storms, The Reptile Man, on Monday June 14 at 1030 AM; Lake Soil and Water Conservation District's Cindy Strickland on Monday June 21 at 1030 AM; The Central Florida Zoo in Sanford on Tueday June 29 at 1030 AM and our last guest will be C&N Divers of Mount Dora illustrating scuba gear on Tuesday July 6 at 1030 AM.
The activity/craft story days will be on Thursdays. They start Thursday June 10 at 1130 AM and will continue on June 17 at 1130, June 24 at 1130, July 1 at 1130 and wrap up on July 8 at 1130. Look for flyers giving details on what will happen each activity/craft day.
Again this year we will be having a circulation drive during the Summer Reading Program. We will be shooting for 5000 circulation of kid and young adult books. In the last two years we have almost reached that mark, help us reach and smash it this year.
Finally, we will be giving away gift bags to the kids who turn in the 5000 goal reading logs. Also, kids who attend the activity/craft story days will also get a gift bag. All the bags will be filled with water themed and beach themed items.
We look forward to seeing you all in the coming months.
