Cooper Memorial Library hosts a monthly program of Opera@thelibrary that brings the joy of opera to the students and general public alike, right here in South Lake County. Every fourth Monday of the month from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm we bring quality educational and entertaining programs on opera and the operatic experience. Since our inception in November 2009, we have had a phenomenal response and support for opera programming. Our mission for the program is to foster an appreciation for opera and to inform, educate, and bring awareness of opera among individuals of all ages and from all walks of life.
We offer these programs to the academic community and the general public and can proudly boast attendees from Lake, Polk and Orange counties. We are currently completing our Puccini cycle this July with Manon Lescaut and will embark on new programs including familiar themes in the operas of Massenet, Boito, and Gounod, with holiday offerings from Humperdinck and Menotti. All programs are conducted by Norma Trivelli, Adjunct Professor of Foreign Languages and Voice at Lake-Sumter Community College, and facilitated by Dennis Smolarek, Reference Librarian & Adult Programs at Cooper Memorial Library.
