If you have missed the marvelous monthly programs presented by the Friends of the Marianne Beck Memorial Library, you have missed much. It’s never too late. The programs are open to all, all ages, members and non-members, men and women. The information on upcoming events will be advertised and posted at the library. You may also contact the library to be added to our e-mail list.
In addition to providing wonderful programs, the Friends’ group has been busy with money making projects in preparation for the library’s expansion. We have received an impact fee grant from the county of $114,627. We will be expanding into the remainder of the building which will give us an additional 300 square feet. The grant will cover the construction, but there will be additional expenses. We are looking to the Friends of the Library and donations to help us with these additional items which include an additional piece of circulation furniture as well as two lateral files.
The Friends sponsored our application to the Libri Foundation. We won that grant and will be receiving eighty-five children’s books. Watch for the Welcome Party that we will have when the books arrive.
This is a kid-friendly library. Most of our children’s activities are geared toward the ages of six through twelve. Every Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 our volunteer, Katonya Yochum, has a project for the children.
As you know, the library is always looking for volunteers. Currently, we have a specific need. We need someone that can guide us in the fine art of pumpkin growing in central Florida. We don’t need physical help (that will be the children’s job), but we are in need of some wise counsel. Please call the library at 324-0254, if you can help us.
