Spaces are filling up fast for the next Beginning Genealogy Course to be held at the Leesburg Public Library.  Classes will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for three Saturday mornings:  August 25th, September 15th, and September 22nd.  This course is intended for beginners who want to learn how to research their family history and genealogy.  An advance donation of $15, payable to the Friends of the Leesburg Library (Attention:  Carol Anderson) will reserve a seat for all three classes.  Bring or mail your cash or check to the Library to register soon - class size is limited!  For further information, please call 352-728-9790, email, or come to the 2nd floor Library Information Desk.

Tickets will go on sale September 1st for our annual Genealogy After Hours event, to be held this year on Friday, November 16th from 5:30 - 8:30 pm.  Our featured speaker will be Jack Butler, professional genealogist, lecturer, and author who has been helping folks track their ancestors for more than ten years.  As a 6th generation Floridian, with strong ties to neighboring states, he has researched extensively throughout the South, in addition to significant work in New England, Canada, and the United Kingdom.  His talk will be "Making Sense of the Census" with special emphasis on the 1940 Census results just released this year.  For a $15 donation to our generous sponsors, the Friends of the Leesburg Library, participants receive a tote bag, exclusive access to all library computers and genealogical resources including such databases as Ancestry, HeritageQuest, and Fold3, microfilm, CDs, and our print collection.  Light refreshments will be catered in the Florida Room.  Attendance is limited to 100, so get your ticket early at the 2nd floor Information Desk, Leesburg Public Library, 100 E. Main St., Leesburg, FL  34748.
