Everyone ages 8 – 19 is encouraged to enter Lake County Library System’s third annual Trash to Fashion Contest which will be held Saturday, October 20, at Leesburg Public Library beginning at 11 a.m. Individual designers (or teams of designers) need to send in one entry form for a recycled creation in order to receive an invitation to participate in this free contest. To find out more about this unique eco-friendly fashion contest, check out the Library System’s website at www.mylakelibrary.org
So what makes this fashion contest unique? Young designers must use recycled materials to design a piece of wearable art based on the creative use of items that might otherwise end up in a landfill. Entries will be judged for 1) originality, 2) creative use of materials and 3) craftsmanship. Designers can choose to model their own creations or bring along a model of any age to show off their recycled outfit to the judges and audience at the October 20 Fashion Show.
After a panel of judges and the audience have a chance to see each outfit modeled, Target gift cards will be awarded to the top 3 tween designers and to the top 3 teen designers. 1st place wins $100, 2nd place wins $50 and 3rd place wins $25 Target gift cards donated by the Friends of Leesburg Public Library. Designers who do not place in the top three spots will receive prizes donated by Goodwill of Central Florida, Mary Kay, Lake Sumter Community College Foundation, Crispers of Eustis, and the Lake County Library System.
