The Friends of the Astor Library organization was recently presented with the Community Spirit Award by the Astor Area Chamber of Commerce. This special award recognizes the Friends for over 10 years of supplementing County funding to maintain the high standards for a library that is essential to the core of the Astor Community. The members were praised for their ongoing efforts for Youth Programming and especially the Summer Reading Program. During their 10+-year history, the Friends have raised over $40,000 for the library and have currently spent almost $35,000 for library programs. In addition to fundraising efforts, individual Friends members have been instrumental in getting the word out to the community about the importance of the Astor library. Please call the library at 352-759-9913 if you're interested in becoming part of this active, fun group.
