Cooper Memorial Library staff are hosting another great season of programming, with fabulous events to capture everyone’s tastes and interests. On that note, we proudly present our programs for October through December 2013.
The Pastfinders Genealogy group meets on the second Thursday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. in Room 108. Their next meetings are Thursday, October 10th and November 14th. There will be a Genealogy Open House sponsored by the Pastfinders on Saturday, October 5th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in room 108.
The CML Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month, from 5 to 7 p.m., in Room 221. Their next meetings are Tuesday, October 15th and November 19th.
Opera @ the Library continues its successful monthly programs in Room 108 B on the fourth Monday of the month from 1:45 to 5 p.m. with informative lectures and outstanding opera performances for the general public. Our October 28th program will be Rossini’s take on the Cinderella story with La Cenerentola. Our November 25th program will be Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, with Tchaikovsky’s Ballet: The Nutcracker on December 16th.
Our new Movies @the Library program for 2013 is in full swing and everyone is invited to enjoy a free block-buster movie. Movies are shown at 10 a.m. on Thursdays in room 108 B on October 3rd, November 17th and December 5th. Watch a new blockbuster movie and enjoy free popcorn and soda. All movies are rated PG-13 so call the library at 352-536-2275 for all the movie details.
Computer Classes are in full gear and we are offering free classes on Thursdays at 2 p.m. in room 202 (Computer Lab) with Internet Basics on November 5th and Pinterest for the Holidays on November 19th. Pre-Registration is required for these classes as seating is limited.
The Holiday Music Series will feature two great performances from 4 to 6 p.m. on the Main Floor of our library to usher in the 2013 holiday season. On Thursday, December 5th we will feature the Christian vocal and guitar group DaVida, and on Tuesday, December 10th we will spotlight soloists from the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra with a Trumpet and Guitar Duo, performing great seasonal music for everyone to enjoy.
The Veterans History Project cordially invites everyone to attend the celebration of our veterans of South Lake County for the Unveiling of the Collection of Memoirs, Volume 4, Korean War Veterans, Part 1, on Saturday, November 2nd, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., in room 108.
A Korean War Remembrance event will be held on Thursday, November 7th, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., in room 108. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cooper Memorial Library and will include refreshments, with a brief Korean War documentary and a special veteran guest speaker.
