Notes from the Fruitland Park Library

JoAnn Glendinning

Wow…the holidays are over and it’s time to take a rest, NOT! At the library we are busy getting ready for our spring and summer programming.

On January 22, 2014 the Lake County Library System and its member libraries will be participating in Snapshot Day. Snapshot Day is a state wide program where libraries get the opportunity to tell the story of its value to the community. Libraries will collect their statistics, stories, and photos that showcases what happens in just one day in their library. Budget cuts and a slow economy have hurt all libraries everywhere. A picture is worth a thousand words; a snapshot can write volumes for advocacy. It is only through the involvement of librarians, media specialists and library staff that we will complete the portrait of Florida’s libraries and how they serve their communities.

Starting on Thursday, February 6th, AARP Tax Aid will begin at the Fruitland Park Library. This service is free and opened to everyone. Please call the library at 352-360-6561 to make an appointment.

The Mahjong Club continues to meet every Wednesday afternoon from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. Learn to play. Beginners are welcome.

The Fruitland Park Library Book Club meets the third Monday of every month in the library’s Community Room at 10:00 a.m. Please call the library at 352-360-6561 for the month’s title.
