Festival of Reading a Success
“Adventures in Paradise” featured 16 best selling Florida authors and showcased an additional 14 local authors in 13 separate events. The 2010 Festival of Reading included writing workshops, informative and entertaining panels and an author’s reception at the Leesburg Public Library. A silent auction was held as a new fund-raising effort to continue year round programs at the libraries.
Poetry Contest
The East Lake County Library is holding its 9th Annual Poetry Contest in honor of April as National Poetry Month. Entries are being accepted now until May 14, 2010 and can be submitted electronically from our website at www.mylakelibrary.org/poetry_contest or mailed to the following address:
Junior Authors Best Tellers
VolunteerLAKE created a family friendly program where books are written by children for children. The program project name at W.T.Bland Public Library was “Kids Tell It Best” and at the East Lake Library, the program project name was “Junior Authors Best Tellers”.
Held on the Homefront: German POWS in the South, 1943-46
A traveling exhibit, “Held on the Homefront: German POWS in the South,1943-46” that tells the unknown story of German POWs held in Camps all over the U. S. during WWII will be at the W. T. Bland Public Library for one day – Friday, April 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Bookmark Design Contest Winners Announced
The Lake County Library System is pleased to announce the winners of the 11th annual Bookmark Design Contest.
Financial Workshops at the Library
The Lake County Library System will partner with University of Florida/IFAS Lake County Extension to present programs in April and May to assist residents in organizing their personal financial information and finding practical ways to make ends meet.
Join a Friends of the Library Group!
Friends of the Library promote and support library programs and staff through fund raising efforts and advocacy. Annual book and bake sales and other community projects provide opportunities to engage in activities which make the library a stronger presence in our community. Together, we are building better libraries for stronger communities.
New Tutor Training is a success
16 new volunteer adult literacy tutors graduated on March 27, 2010!

A new pre-GED series is being created for adult learners enrolled in the LCLS Adult Literacy Program.

The Lake County Library System is making plans to upgrade to Release 3.3.1 for Symphony, the Lake County Library System's Automation System. The release is tentatively scheduled for June 2010 and will include the ability for the public to save lists of titles in the online catalog. East Lake Happenings
The East Lake Library has just finished its biggest one-time program of the year, that being the Annual Bluegrass Festival. We had our biggest attendance of over 1400 people. The East Lake Friends group had a very successful sale. The proceeds will go to fund library purchases and programming. The weather was great, the music outstanding and overall festive mood. Thanks to those who attended and to those who didn't please come out next year.
Minneola Library Happenings
Friends of the Library will hold their semi-annual Used Book & DVD Sale this month, Various Family and Youth programs continue, and get ready for the Summer Reading Programs for all ages!
Poetry Under the Oaks
Come and help us celebrate the 12th anniversary of the W. T. Bland Public Library’s Poetry Under the Oaks – our annual celebration of poetry and poets – on Saturday, April 17 starting at 11:00am.
Paisley County Library
Paisley County Library has a vast variety of programs for the community to choose from. We hope you can stop by and take advantage of these.
Astor County Library
The next give-a-way goodies are for Cinco de Mayo and the drawing will obviously be on May 5th. One of the prizes is a $10 gift card to Subway. Just come by the Astor Library and check out a book or magazine and who knows, you could be a winner!
Taste of the Carribbean
This program will be our last Partnership Grant event of the year, funded by the Florida Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Florida Novelist to Appear at Cooper Memorial Library
Author JD Seamus, will appear at the Cooper Memorial Library Thursday May 13th at 2:00 p.m. to talk about his latest poignant and funny mystery book, Last Call, a brisk, can’t-put-it-down read that is wonderfully entertaining!
Scrapbooking comes to Groveland
On April 22nd, Creative Memories consultant Renet McCall will be teaching an introductory class on scrapbooking techniques at the Marion Baysinger Memorial County Library.
Meet Clermont’s Father and Son Authors
Cooper Memorial Library in Clermont is pleased to introduce a pair of outstanding local authors, Bruce R. Price author of fine period novels set in the 17th and 19th centuries and his son Rod.
Cagan Crossings Display Changes
In the interest of making it easier for patrons to find what they want, the Cagan Crossings Library has made many changes to our layout and location of materials.
